Welcome to My Personal Page
In memory of Hon. Elizabeth Whitefield, I am raising money for Animal Humane Association of New Mexico (AHANM) between now and November 2. This is one of the charities listed on her obituary. She was a big fan of rescuing dogs, as we all know. Soooooooooo if you didn’t get a chance to donate to AHANM on her behalf yet, here is your chance to do so. I will be running in the AHANM’s annual Doggie Dash on November 4. I run in this race every year but from now on I will run for Elizabeth. To make this more fun, you all get to choose which dog I run with. Each dollar you donate counts as a vote for either dog. Lucille has agreed to be my treasurer and count the ballots. To help in your decisionmaking process, here is a bio for each dog (listed in alpha order so as not to sway your vote):
Jane Air is a spunky sweetie pie mutt, approx. 5 years old, whom we rescued by way of TracysDogs in Texas. She was picked up as a stray in Harlingen, TX on Dec. 8, 2013. She was severely underweight and unfortunately sent to a city shelter where they only keep dogs for a few days before having to euthanize them. On Dec. 12, at the last hour, Jane Air was rescued by TracysDogs and put on their ranch with all the other rescues waiting for adoption. They found that she was being picked on by the more alpha dogs and so they removed her to a foster home and, once stable there, put her up on their website for adoption. That is where we found her and adopted her sight unseen. They brought her to Santa Fe in January 2014 and she has been with us since then. After training, she obtained several obedience titles and in May 2015 became a registered therapy dog with Southwest Canine Corps of Volunteers (SCCV) visiting Tijeras Library, La Vida Llena nursing home, Edgewood Library and BeeHive Assisted Living in Edgewood. Not too long after we adopted her we ran her DNA and discovered she is a highly mixed bloodhound (supposedly). Her favorite pastime is to search for gophers and rabbits in our yard as she has a high prey drive. I do not know that she has ever caught any. She loves being outdoors in the rain, cold, sleet, and mud. She is a good runner but likes to make a lot of pitstops along the way so I have to keep her in the middle of the track to keep her focused during the run.
Thorin is a soulful 5 year-old purebred Rhodesian Ridgeback who is ridgeless. He was born in Moriarty and sold by his breeder to a family in Tijeras in April 2013. Through word of mouth by way of my vet, I found out he was being surrendered by his owners in December 2015. He was a bit of a fixer upper in terms of housetraining, obedience and grooming, but I went to work on him right away on all fronts and now he has since obtained several obedience titles and has been a registered therapy dog with SCCV since May 2017. He visits the same facilities as Jane Air. Thorin does not like flies, rain, or cold weather, so although he thinks he likes the outdoors, he actually prefers to be inside where life is more civilized. He thinks our neighbor’s horse Sunshine is a large dog with whom he would like to play. Thorin is an excellent runner and placed in the PiK race in Pie Town, New Mexico last month.
I will not be hounding (ahahahaha) anyone for donations (well except for Gary), and this will be the only notice I’m sending out. But I will place a reminder in the breakroom. On Tuesday, November 6 (Election Day) I will take all donations to AHANM in memory of Elizabeth Whitefield on behalf of Keleher & McLeod, PA.
Thanks to all!
